Custom-made axle air spring solutions
Decades of expertise in the research and development of advanced axle air spring systems have enabled ContiTech to establish a position as one of the leading specialists in the global commercial vehicle market. ContiTech knows and understands the specific requirements of truck, bus and trailer vehicle manufacturers and works in close cooperation with them to develop individually customised solutions that boast a maximum level of quality, functionality, reliability and cost efficiency.
Air springs for buses
Bus air springs enable constant and low natural frequency for empty and laden condition and hereby provide excellent ride comfort for the passenger.
Bus air springs support kneeling function for convenient passenger entry and exit.
Generally two air springs are fitted to the front axle and four to the rear axle.
ContiTech bus air springs provide effective solutions
- Integrated air spring damping modules for highest comfort demands
- Maximum resistance against heat sources located inside the vehicle
- Compact spring design for restricted installation space
Air springs for truck applications
The weight of a truck, and thus the axle load, fluctuates greatly depending on the payload at any given moment. To meet the resulting suspension requirements, virtually all commercial vehicle manufacturers employ air springs. Air-suspended trucks with level control system provide constant chassis height and road clearance independent of loading weight.
Only air springs enable constant and low natural frequency between tare and full load. This ensures effective cargo protection even on bad roads, excellent comfort and health protection for the truck driver and safe driving conditions.
Truck air springs further allow raising and lowering of the vehicle body for loading and unloading operations via manual chassis height controls.
As a result an easy truck height adjustment for trailer king pin connection, swap body handling or loading ramps is achieved.
ContiTech truck air springs provide substantial performance benefits
- High comfort and small demand for installation space
- Fuel economy and payload increase via lightweight design
- Robustness for an extended operating temperature range
Air springs for trailer / semitrailer applications
Air suspension on trailers ensures gentler treatment of both the load being hauled and any trailer body mounted equipment.
Trailer air springs further contribute to less road wear due to low natural frequency, reduced unsprung axle mass and reduced wheel load fluctuations. This aspect is of growing importance as traffic volume becomes increasing dense.
As a rule, each axle has two air springs. In multi-axle combinations, one axle is frequently provided with an axle-lifting device to protect the tires on empty runs or when the vehicle is only partially loaded. Usually convoluted air springs are used for raising and lowering lift axles.
ContiTech trailer air springs are designed with special focus on the following aspects
- Optimum price/performance ratio achieved by means of a specific selection of materials and components close to the application requirements
- Robust solutions incorporating a high functionality level
